The brightest color of light that we offer is blue followed by green, yellow, red, and purple.
None of our safety lights direct a high degree of light into the dog's normal field of vision. Dogs have excellent night vision and therefore do not require any help to see where they are going in the dark. In fact, illuminating the area in front of a dog will only hinder their night vision ability. Our lights are designed to direct most of the light underneath, to the sides, or behind the dog so that their location can be seen from virtually every angle, without affecting the dog's night vision.
There is no simple answer to this question. Many factors affect the safety value of a particular light. Although flashing light tends to be observed faster than non-flashing light by human peripheral vision, i.e. out of the corner of your eye, it can be harder to track their exact movement if they are wearing a flashing light.
It also depends on personal preference. Normally, in the course of duty for a police dog, a flashing light is preferred in high risk situations when tracking criminal suspects, because it harder for the suspect to target and shoot the dog from a distance.
Some dogs may be hyper-sensitive to bright flashing light, potentially confusing them or causing a seizure. For these dogs, flashing light is only recommended when directed away from the dog's field of vision. i.e. light pointing underneath or to the rear of the dog or behind the dog's neck.
A flashing light will always use less battery power than a non-flashing light, so in that respect, it may be considered safer if you intend to be out in the dark whith your dog for a long period of time. Unless of course, you are carrying extra batteries with you.
Please see the product page for each type of light for the correct type of batteries. Batteries can be purchased at most drug stores, hardware stores, supermarkets, electronics stores, and department stores.
None of our safety lights are waterproof. The Flash'n'Glo collar is water-resistant. All of our lights will still operate when used in the rain, however the light must be dried out as soon as possible after use to prevent internal corrosion of the batteries and other components. We always recommend removing the light from your dog whenever it is not being used. Do not expose the light to rain or mositure if it is not necessary.
LED is the acronym for Light Emitting Diode. All of our safety lights use one or more LEDs to provide illumination for your dog. LEDs are an ideal light source due to their durability, low power consumption, low heat output, brightness, and diversity of colors.
